TWO young members of Huntingdonshire Fencing Club competed in the National Leon Paul Junior Series at Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire last weekend.
Matt Pickering, left, and Matt Nethercott competed in the under-15s competition with Pickering, seeded 24th after the poule round, beaten 15-6 by a higher ranked fencer in the first round of direct elimination.
Nethercott, who was seeded 12th, also went out in the first round after losing 15-8.
The National Leon Paul Junior Series competition attracts some of the best fencers in Britain and is often a stepping stone for young competitors aiming to win a place in the national junior squad.
