MARTIN Field insists “every game is a big game now” as Eynesbury Rovers continue their fight to win promotion from Division One of the United Counties League.

The joint manager – with Matt Plumb – was delighted that his team were able to pick up another six points over Easter, but told The Hunts Post: “We have a tough run-in, but as I said to the boys, ‘where would you rather be, in mid-table or where we are now?’”

The team created a club record when they beat Raunds Town 3-1 in Northamptonshire on Monday because it was their 14th consecutive undefeated game on the trot. It was also their eighth win from eight games following the 4-2 win at home to Bugbrooke St Michaels on Saturday.

On Wednesday the team are due to play Potton United at home, and on Saturday they face top-of-the-table Sileby Rangers who, like second-placed AFC Rushden & Diamonds and fourth-placed Oadby Town, dropped points over the Easter period.

“It’s as tight as it comes,” said Field. “Our Easter was not bad. But we took a few knocks and I am low on centre haves for the game against Potton. Some of my midfielders have picked up knocks as well but that’s what happens when you have a week off and then you play two games in 48 hours.”

Against Bugbrooke it was 2-2 when Ben Colmer scored his second goal of the game – a terrific 20-yard volley – to edge his team ahead in the 83rd minute. Earlier, Lee Bassett had opened the scoring with his 29th goal of the season, but Pete Smith equalised from the penalty spot.

Colmer made it 2-1 but again Bugbrooke came back a minute into the second half through Will Briscoe. After Colmer’s stunner, Dion Sembie-Ferris made it 4-1, netting from close range in only his second game.

On Monday, Colmer scored again in the 3-1 win away at Raunds in a game that Feild described as a “physical challnege”. Bassett got number 30 for the season from the penalty spot in the fourth minute and Tom Coles made it 3-0 before the home side managed to nick a consolation in the second half.
