Iain Parr has told The Hunts Post that fans might have to wait until Christmas to see an upturn in form at St Neots Town.

The club’s manager and his new assistant Gary King have made sweeping changes to the playing staff in recent weeks bringing in a whole host of new faces and despite more losses in the league - including Tuesday night’s 3-0 defeat at home to Corby Town - there has been a hint of improvement.

“I reckon we are talking as far as Christmas time before the squad settles,” said Parr. “We have got four or five loanees and two or three of them are up in the next few weeks so I need to look to see if I am going to keep them.

“I’ve had a player who used to play for us phone me and say he would like to come back – so I need to try and finalise that. And then it’s just trying to get a settled group. Once we have a settle group things should improve.

“If we have nine or 10 of the same names down every week then you can start to gel. We can’t do that at the moment.”

Injuries to Ed Adjei (badly bruised foot) and Adrian Sear (ligaments) haven’t helped matters after St Neots went all the way to north Devon on Saturday to lose 3-2 at Bideford.

But the team’s form in cup competitions this season has been better than the league form and the visit to Matlock Town of the Northern League in second round qualifying of the Trophy on Saturday will come as a welcome distraction following last night’s game Southern Premier game against Corby.

When St Neots beat Halesowen in the last round of the competition two weeks ago it was probably with their best performance of the season.

But a 5-0 thrashing by Chesham United preceded that trip to Bideford and before last the Saints only had six points from two wins in 11 games. They were one off the bottom of the table.

“I think by the end of November, mid-December things will have improved and I am hoping to come out of the Christmas period with a couple wins and stabilised and looking to keep this group fired up for next season.

“Last year I thought we were where we deserved to be – bottom half, mid-table – but I don’t think we are this year. We need to grind a few points out.”
