Harriet Fenton, a runner for Peterborough Athletics Club who lives in Sawtry, represented Kimbolton School in the recent Eastern Region Biathlon event in Nottingham and has now qualified for two major competitions.
The 11-year-old runner and swimmer was competing in the event against athletes from Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and by finishing in the top three of the under-12s competition the young biathlete has qualified for both the British Modern Biathlon Championships, taking place in November at Tudor Grange in Solihull, and the Schools Biathlon Championships at the Olympic Park in London in April next year.
Thrilled to have won the opportunity to run on the same track as many of her idols and swim in the Olympic pool, Fenton told her mother Jo Fenton: “Awesome, I get to run on the same track as Usain Bolt and Jessica Ennis, make sure you get plenty of pictures and footage of me!”
It seems that 2014 will be one to remember for this rising star.
