Tommy Martin was crowned English light-welterweight champion last night (January 31).
The St Neots puncher out-pointed Ricky Boylan to land the vacant belt at the O2 Arena in London – despite suffering a suspected broken left hand midway through the 10-round scrap.
But that didn’t stop the 20 year-old extending his unbeaten professional record to 11 fights with a slick and sharp display.
“I’m so happy to become English champion,” said Martin. “Every night I’ve been dreaming about winning the belt and I always knew I could do it.
“I’ve got the best team in the world around me and this belt is a reward for them.
“Now it’s a case of bring on the next challenge.”
The three judges scored the fight 97-93, 97-93 and 99-92 in the favour of the local star.
More on Martin’s success in the Hunts Post out on Wednesday (February 4).
