Director of football Iain Parr believes the major shift in St Neots Town’s style has been vindicated.

Parr, who took up his position days before the January resignation of previous boss David Batch, and interim manager Andy Davies have abandoned the direct approach favoured by the previous regime in favour of a passing game.

Parr, also the club’s youth chief, said: “There are a lot of good footballers at the club so it hasn’t been particularly difficult to change the way we play. It was just a case of altering some mindsets.

“Myself and Andy have done a lot of work in development whereas in senior football on a Saturday afternoon it is about results, but there is always room to play football what we consider to be the right way.

“That was not happening at the club and there were Saturdays when I wasn’t coming to watch games.

“It is nice to see the players enjoying their football again and the boys have bought into what we want from them.

“We know there is still room for improvement, but hopefully we can nick three-or-four more wins to keep ourselves in this league and make sure the club is in good shape.”

St Neots sit six points above the relegation zone ahead of a clash against Slough Town at the Premier Plus Stadium tomorrow.

That will be a second successive home game for a Saints side who edged out third-bottom Pauton Rovers last Saturday thanks to a solitary goal from Lee Clarke with three minutes remaining.

The fit-again frontman fired his fifth league goal of the season after missing the previous six Saints games. It also secured their first Premier Division double of the campaign.

St Neots have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 in matches against sides from the bottom half of the table since Batch’s departure.

Parr added: “I’m not arrogant enough to say we are safe, but I am convinced we are moving in the right direction again.

“The victory against Paulton last Saturday gives us a platform on which to build during the rest of the season.”
