The concession of two early tries and two late tries proved costly as Huntingdon were beaten in their penultimate Midlands Division One East fixture of the season.
Damien Whales’ youthful side went down 39-17 to third-placed Newbold on Avon at the Racecourse last Saturday.
Much of the damage was done by those scores in the opening 10 minutes and final 10 minutes of the clash. They gave the scoreline a somewhat flattering look for the visitors.
In the hour in between Stags performed well and deservedly got on the scoresheet with tries from Rory Parker and debutant Sam Durnan.
Jack Skidmore did the honours with both conversions and also guided over a penalty.
Sixth-placed Stags’ final outing is at home to Northampton Old Scouts this Saturday (3pm) when they stage their President’s Day.
