St Ives CC pedallers took the top two spots at the Northampton & District Cycling Association (NDCA) 10-mile time trial, held on the old A1 between Sawtry and Stilton, last Saturday.
More than 100 riders braved the elements to compete in the second round of the NDCA series and it was St Ives men who delivered the best times.
Only five seconds split winner Mick Hodson, who took top spot with a time of 21:52, and Carl Whitwell in 21:57.
Hodson’s victory on a cold, windy afternoon was all the more remarkable considering it was his first outing of the 2016 season. He described the result as a ‘surprise’ even though he always features close to the top of the results in local races.
St Ives also took the award for fastest team with Andrew Knowles’ 25:33 completing their scoring trio and being enough to fend off the challenge of Fenland Clarion.
