Former St Ives Town footballer Conor Washington sealed his place at Euro 2016 last night (Friday).

The prolific striker marked his third international appearance for Northern Ireland with his second goal as they beat Belarus 3-0 in a friendly in Belfast.

Washington pounced on an error by Belarus keeper Andrei Harbunov to head his country’s second goal of the night just before half-time.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill then announced his 23-man squad for Euro 2016 today (Saturday) with Washington, who now plays for Championship club Queens Park Rangers, included.

It would continue a meteoric rise for a player who was featuring for Saints at United Counties League level less than four years ago.
