Eaton Socon manager Mark Spavins was happy with his side, despite dropping their first points of the season.

A late Ryan Whittingham goal rescued a point for Eaton, as they drew 1-1 with Sawston United.

“We were quite lucky to get a point to be completely honest” said Spavins. “If it wasn’t for an absolutely world class save from Andrew Wale, they would have beaten us.

“But we had five or six players missing due to work commitments, unfortunately it was just one of those weekends. It’s disappointing to drop points, but at the end of the day we’re still unbeaten and top of the league by a point so I can’t be unhappy.

“We dug in and got the point, whereas at this stage last season we might have dropped all three points.”

Brampton exited the Premier League KO Cup at the first stage, as they went down 3-1 to Chatteris Town. Gareth Owens scored the only goal for Brampton, whilst defender Aaron Wooton was sent off. Hemingfords United secured a point against Cherry Hinton thanks to a Joseph Kelly goal in a 1-1 draw. Needingworth beat Lakenheath Reserves 4-2 in their Cambs Senior B fixture. James Clark, Scott Fielding, James Hodson and Michael Thompson all found the net for Needingworth.

Ramsey Pavilion’s first game in Saturday football ended in disappointment, as they lost by the odd goal in a seven-goal thriller. A Kyle McPartlin brace and a Stephen Hurst strike wasn’t enough, as they went down 4-3 to March Rangers, who ended the game with nine men. After last year’s treble win, AFC Barley Mow were brought back down to earth as they lost 5-3 in their opening Division 2B fixture against Little Downham Swifts. After suffering a broken leg last season, 52-goal striker Josh Turner scored on his return but it wasn’t enough. Callum Parker also made it onto the score sheet, with an own goal completing the scoring.

Somersham Town breathed life into their Cambs Senior A campaign with an 8-0 win over Huntingdonshire rivals Great Paxton.

Five goals from Justin Ives helped Somersham to victory. Ives’ haul was accompanied by a brace from Jay Coulson and a Paul Knighton strike.
