Nicky Brett has come through two thrillers in as many days at the World Indoor Championships.
Brett teamed up with Claire Johnston to capture the mixed pairs crown on Tuesday afternoon in a match eventually settled on a replayed final end of a tie-break.
They beat Paul Foster and Bex Field 7-6, 7-9, 2-1 in a two-and-half hour showdown.
“Sometimes it is just your day,” said Brett. “It was great to be part of a game like that.
“We seemed to match each other bowl for bowl, and play under pressure the whole time. We just managed to come through at the end.”
And Brett was involved in another epic Hopton-on-Sea clash yesterday when continuing the defence of his singles crown.
The Huntingdon IBC man admitted he was ‘terrified’ of being eliminated in the second round when pushed to the limit by Scottish pensioner Charles Bence.
Top seed Brett lost the opening set 5-7 before bossing the second 10-4 and taking the tie-break 2-1.
“I don’t mind admitting I was terrified,” added the world number one. “Charles played fantastic.
“I was totally gobsmacked by some of the shots that he played, and he continually put me under pressure.
“I’m just happy to get through because I was out of it for long parts of the game.”
Brett now faces ninth seed Stewart Anderson in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
