The ‘Masters’ of St Ives Rowing Club proved they are exactly that – thanks to a fine performance at the Bedford Spring Head last Sunday.
Gary Gilbey, Tony Bennett, Pip Woodford and Paul Ashmore, who form the club’s Masters D quad, were the fastest crew over a 2,000m course on the River Great Ouse.
Their time of 6mins, 40secs earned victory in their bracket by 37 seconds and was actually quicker than senior men’s crews from the Bedford and Cambridge clubs.
Lauren Maddison missed out on victory in the Women’s Junior 16 single sculls by two seconds. She clocked 8mins, 41secs.
