Upwood batsman Neil Tuffin enjoyed a sparkling start to the new Hunts League season last Saturday.
Tuffin clubbed a mighty 142 as his side roared to a 176-run triumph in their Division Three opener against Hampton 2nds.
More than a century of Tuffin’s runs arrived in boundaries as he pummelled the Peterborough side’s bowlers into submission with 27 fours.
Upwood eventually declared an over early on 311-7 before removing the visitors for 135 – James Milner, Brett Wright and Zubair Mohammed bagging three wickets apiece to complete an emphatic success.
Nazam Jawaid hit 88 as Huntingdon & District 2nds slipped to a five-wicket defeat at Biggleswade at the same level.
Jawaid’s quick knock, off just 81 balls, featured six fours and six sixes and helped his side to 239-9.
Ali Shah (55) also made a half-century while Zia Rahman added 34, but hosts Biggleswade passed their target with five balls to spare.
A century from TJ Harding couldn’t prevent reigning Division One champions Ramsey 2nds from falling to a season-opening defeat.
Harding cracked an unbeaten 105 and was responsible for almost half of his side’s total of 213-9 in an eight-wicket reverse at Peterborough side Orton Park.
Waresley 2nds were also on the receiving end of a heavy loss at that level. They went down to Hampton by 288 runs when being removed for just 101 in reply to a hefty score of 389-8. Waresley bowler Thomas Baker did his best to stem the tide by taking 3-54.
Buckden made a smart start to the campaign in Division Two. Alex Marsh’s men eased to a seven-wicket success at Nassington 2nds.
Laurie Marsh (3-18) led a fine Buckden bowling effort as they dismissed their hosts for 126 before easing to victory. Lewis Medlow top-scored as he fell two runs short of a half-century, while skipper Marsh added 33.
Young Jack Ranganathan impressed for St Ives in their Division Five opener. The 12 year-old followed up an unbeaten 58 with 3-26 in a three-wicket loss to Houghton & Wyton.
