A 13 year-old talent starred for Eaton Socon 2nds as they triumphed in a big Hunts League survival battle on the final day of the Division One season.
Olly Jefferies spun his way to 5-35 in a crucial 73-run success at Hampton which led to their hosts being relegated.
A rather more senior player was the most impressive batsman as Eaton Socon 2nds posted 230. Ray Tudor, 44, clubbed a fine 82 off just 49 deliveries.
Matt Pateman, who dropped down from first-team duty for the second successive weekend, added 30 while the club’s overseas player, Dale Van Der Merwe, chipped in with 3-33 as Hampton were removed for 157.
Godmanchester Town 2nds were another team to secure their status last Saturday when triumphing in their penultimate Division Two fixture.
Jim Lunn (3-13), Jamie Rice (3-14) and Himanshu Rai (3-35) were all among the wickets in an 83-run verdict against Ickwell.
Lunn also contributed well with the bat when responsible for 40 of the Town side’s 187-5 total. Chip Wood led the way with 69 as his side avoided a second successive relegation.
Skipper Michael Piaggesi ended the season on a high note with a five-wicket haul for Houghton & Wyton. Piaggesi swooped for 5-40 in a 116-run win against Blunham 2nds which also included a half-century from opener Mark Hollis (57).
An innings of 54 from Neil Suckling and a 4-24 haul from Abu Bakar were the highlights of Alconbury’s 70-run victory at Barnack at the same level.
Another big Zubair Maqsood score was not enough to prevent Huntingdon & District 2nds from suffering a three-wicket defeat in their penultimate Division Three outing. He carried his bat for 83 as the locals posted 214-9, but Peterborough opponents Falcon eclipsed it with just under four overs to spare.
The final Sunday of the Bedfordshire County League season turned into a family affair for Eaton Socon 2nds.
Their line-up for a 52-run win at Elstow in Division Five included two fathers and sons (Ray and Joe Dawborn, Chris and Brad Dickerson), a father and daughter (Colin and Adelaide Walkling), and brothers (Reece and Troy Beavis).
Joe Dawborn, a star bowler at considerably higher levels of the game, top-scored with the bat in this contest – hitting 68 off 67 balls.
Adelaide Walkling added an unbeaten 41 as the Eaton Socon outfit reached 167-5 before dismissing their hosts for 115. Troy Beavis claimed 3-25.
And the club’s first XI also ended on a winning note as Tom Banks (70) and Van Der Merwe (66) scored heavily in a 52-run triumph against Blunham in Division Two.
