Not even a second century of the summer from captain Jonny Carpenter was enough to prevent a 34-run reverse at the hands of Foxton in the big Whiting & Partners Division One clash.

The visiting side piled up 272-7 from their 50 overs at Peppercorn lane with Eaton Socon being dismissed for 238 in reply.

Almost half of those runs came from Carpenter, who contributed 113 from 135 balls, but lacked any notable support with only fellow opener Matt Pateman (30), number three Ollie Jeffferies (26) and Michael Pickard (23) making it into double figures.

Eaton Socon dropped to fourth place in the standings and trail leaders Saffron Walden – who won at lowly locals Waresley yesterday – by 36 points. However, Carpenter’s men do possess two games in hand.

The table-toppers triumphed by 46 runs against Waresley when posting 263-8 despite some brilliant bowling from Ashwin Reddy, who claimed a career-best of 5-42 at this level.

Dan Cummins was the highest-scoring Waresley batsmen with 82 as they reached 217-9 in reply.

Godmanchester Town continued to fall away from title contention when suffering a fourth successive defeat.

They could only manage 157 when in pursuit of Sawston & Babraham’s 282-7 at The Parks to go down by 125 runs.

Amit Gupta (38 off as many balls) and Joshua Wesson (35no) were the only Town batsmen to make any real headway.

Ramsey and rock-bottom Kimbolton put more than 500 runs on the board in a high-scoring clash at Cricketfield Lane that was settled in the final over.

Kimbolton, who are still to register a top-flight win, amassed 261-3 with captain Jason Redinger hitting an unbeaten 106 and opener Marcus Wilkinson adding 52.

But they were pipped by two wickets as Ramsey survived a difficult start to their reply before snatching victory.

Their middle-order of Charlie Morrison (78), Ollie Stevens (41) and Matt Duncan (38) were key figures before Jon Cade (22no) and Mark Saunders finished the job with four balls to spare.

St Ives were knocked off the top of Whiting & Partners Division Two after only one week.

Jack Haycock’s side slipped to a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Blunham when seeing their posting of 193 easily eclipsed.

Murray Reid (48) and Richard Greiller (41) both fell just short of half-centuries for St Ives before Matthew Wells’ fine 4-38 return proved to be in vain as they fell to a first loss for almost two months.

Huntingdon & District are one place behind St Ives after seeing off Southill Park by 112 runs at St Peters Road.

A seasonal best of 58 from Martin Burton was the highest individual contribution as the town team reached 289-8 after opener Andrew Wright (43) and Faisal Javed (40) put on 98 for the opening wicket.

South African ace Graham Hudson, who hit two centuries the previous weekend, starred with the ball on this occasion with a 4-22 haul from seven overs. Saqib Riaz and Burton also claimed two wickets apiece.
