More than 400 runners took to local roads last Sunday for a sun-baked St Ives 10k.

Kenneth Nugent triumphed in the 27th staging of the Hunts AC-organised race which starts and finishes at the One Leisure Outdoor Centre in California Road.

The Irish runner, who is based in the Cambridgeshire area, triumphed in 32.53 with Huntingdon BRJ Run & Tri member Dave Hudson chasing him home in 33.08. James Reed, from Ware, was more than a minute back in third when crossing the line in 34.17.7.

BRJ also provided the leading local lady. Sabrina Crothall was the third female finisher – and 28th overall with a 40.47 time.

BRJ were the third in both the men’s and women’s team standings, while Riverside Runners were second in the female section.

There was a hat-trick of age-group successes for Riverside to celebrate.

Maurice Hemingway took the M60 prize in 44.14, Norma Leckie claimed the W65 top spot in 1:00.49 and Barbara Reading reigned supreme at W70 level in 1:01.42.

Ramsey lady Lisa Marriott was the leading runner in the W35 bracket in 43.08.

Post-race awards were presented by Mike Gratton, who won the London Marathon in 1983.

Gratton also acted as starter for the 3km fun run which was won by Joe Wilson of Riverside Runners in 9.26.

Clubmate Scarlet Dalrymple was the first girl to cross the line in third place (9.43) while BRJ had three finishers in the top 10. Cameron Smith took fourth in 9.46, Keelan Duffy was fifth in 10.05 and Josh Lee came 10th in 10.37.

Freya Harris was the first Under 11 Girls finisher for BRJ while age category prizes were also won by Tom Waterworth (Under 11 Boys) and Caitlan Burke (Under 15 Girls) for host club Hunts AC.

Unattached runners Thomas Mustill (Under 9 Boys, 12.16) and Sophie Lee (Under 9 Girls, 13.07) were also successful.
