Assistant boss Craig Adams insists all St Ives Town feet must remain firmly on the floor following a terrific Bank Holiday weekend.

Saints have risen to third place in the Southern League Premier Division Central standings after following up a battling Saturday draw against Needham Market with a Monday triumph at Royston.

Captain Robbie Parker tucked away a late penalty to earn Saints their Saturday point - a fine effort considering they played for more than an hour with 10 men following the first-half dismissal of Ollie Snaith.

That spot-kick was earned by substitute Ben Seymour-Shove who was then the Saints’ match-winner on Monday when marking his first start of the season with both goals in a 2-1 triumph at Royston.

Adams, in charge for both games with boss Ricky Marheineke away, said “I think we’d have taken four points if offered them in advance of playing two good sides who will be up there later in the season.

“The draw on Saturday felt like a win after battling so hard with 10 men for so long. The lads showed how strong they are mentally to stay in the game and get that goal late on.

“We definitely edged the game at Royston in my mind. We had more entries into the box and more attempts on goal than them.

“It’s a good victory against a team with a lot of quality who I fully expect to be picking up results very soon.

“We’ve got a great changing room with some exciting and hungry young players who are all pulling in the same direction and set high standards of themselves.

“We’re delighted with 10 points from the first five games, but we need to ensure we keep our feet on the ground. We still need another 40 points to get to our target to stay in the division.

“We’re under no illusions that we’re a small club at this level and it’s vital we continue to put in the hard work we have done so far.”

Latest Saints recruit Owen Wallis appeared as a substitute in both Bank Holiday weekend games.

Wallis was signed from league rivals Tamworth after playing against Saints on the opening day of the season.

He spent his childhood in the Norwich City youth season and is based in Huntingdon.

Saints have a big home clash when they entertain second-placed Coalville this Saturday at Westwood Road, 3pm.

That is followed by a short trip to Division One Central newcomers Yaxley in the opening round of the League Challenge Cup on Tuesday.

Saints have been handed an away draw at Step 5 side Saffron Walden Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.

That clash will take place on September 8 and carries a £6,000 reward for the winners.
