ST Ives travelled to Suffolk to face Southwold, and went down by two points.
An agreement not to allow kicking outside the 22 added an edge to the game, and the result was good running rugby.
The home side started the stronger and the visitors had to endure ceaseless attacks.
Saints responded, Alex Bignell pressuring before Andrew Howard scored from a charged-down kick.
Fired-up, Southwold exerted relentless pressure, resulting in a blind-side break and a try in the corner.
The second half continued as the first had ended, both teams giving their all.
St Ives made changes and positional switches as bodies tired, conceding a converted try up the centre.
Not to be outdone, Saints continued to run the ball at every opportunity and were rewarded when a fine passing movement saw MoM Tino Zicchi break from half-way to score under the posts.
The wind pushed the conversion wide and the visitors were unable to score again.
