NEW Huntingdon Town Manager Paul Swannell has revealed to The Hunts Post the names of the players he wants to bring into the side next season.

Convinced of the need to bring some experience into the young side that finished 12th in the United Counties League last season, Swannell is hoping to entice players to Huntingdon from his former club March.

"Huntingdon are a good side," said Swannell, "and by bringing a few more experienced players into the mix the potential is there for this team to really develop well."

And with players such as Paul Turner, Ryan Francis, Martin Wells and Billy Tumblety on the list of potential new signings, Swannell's plan makes good sense.

The three men made up the spine of the team last season for March, and they're all influential players.

Turner, who Swannell hopes will bring with him his coaching experience, is an experienced player and a general in midfield.

Francis is a good attacking player verstaile enough to play up front or midfield. March had much to thank him for last season as he scored a number of vital goals towards the end of the season to spare the club relegation.

Tumblety is a centreback who put in some strong performances last season. He has the ability to organise a defence is solid at the back.

Swannell said: "We're hoping to improve, as all teams do.

"And I like to approach players I've worked with before that can help bring that about."

As for his relationship with the existing Huntingdon players, Swannell was upbeat.

"I've spoken to most of the players, said Swannell, "and all the signs are positive."

"We're looking for a good pre-season and I'm hopeful that there's the enthusiasm and commitment to be as prepared for the new season as possible," he added.

Asked what his hopes are for the coming season, Swannell revealed the emphasis he places on team spirit and a strong start.

"I'm not going to say we're hoping to win everything," he said, "but I believe that if we win a few games early on we could have a good season."

"If we can build confidence and get a good atmosphere going at the club before the season begins then we should be capable of getting that essential good start," he added.

Huntingdon begin their season on 19 August, and Paul Swannell would like to hear from any players interested in playing next season. He would also like players from last season that he hasn't spoken to contact him. He can be contacted on 07813 000082.
