Caldwell was narrowly beaten into second place in the third/fourth category race while Michael Watts finished eighth.
Meanwhile, the club's evening 10-mile time trial has begun with Steve Butterworth the latest winner in a time of 22 minutes, 56 seconds.
Dave Nelson won the Team Cambridge 25-mile time trial while Paul Davis was first St Ives man across the line in the recent open 10-mile time trial.
