Yaxley 0 St Ives Town 1

A LATE Chris Ewles goal saw St Ives round off their league campaign in style with a narrow win.

Saints have proved to be Yaxley's bogey side this season, knocking them out of both County Cups, and preventing them from scoring in four games.

The win was the perfect build-up for St Ives as they prepare to tackle three cup competitions, beginning at home to Biggleswade tomorrow night (Thursday) in the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

Ewles got on the end of a Dan Moyes cross after 85 minutes to clinch victory in a game the visitors dominated.

St Ives finish the season in 10th position, with 17 wins from their 40 games. They are the highest-finishing Huntingdonshire team in the football pyramid.

Town joint manager Jez Hall said: "We were really pleased with the victory and we have done well to keep Yaxley's dangerous strikers quiet on four occasions.

"We are slightly disappointed with our final league position but what makes up for it are the potential three cup finals coming up.

"Rob Mackney, Will Fordham, Jason King and Dan Pilsworth have been outstanding for us all season."

After tomorrow's game with Biggleswade, Saints travel to Potton in the Premier Cup, before the Senior Cup final against Hampton Athletic on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7.
