Assistant manager Jack Cassidy is to stand down from the St Ives Town role this weekend.

Saints have announced that Cassidy will be in the dugout for the final time tomorrow when they travel to Kings Langley for a Southern League Premier Division clash.

Cassidy has been boss Ricky Marheineke’s right-hand man throughout his three-and-a-half years in the ProEdge Westwood Road hotseat.

During that time the club won promotion to Step 3 for the first time in their history thanks to an unforgettable Southern League Division One Central Play-Off Final triumph in 2016.

“It’s been an amazing three-and-a-half years,” said Marheineke. “I’m hugely grateful to Jack for his hard work and loyalty.

“I’m not only losing my number two, but also a very good friend, but it goes without saying that I wish Jack all the very best in the future.”

Cassidy will take up a coaching position at Step 4 side Bedford Town in the coming days, but will continue to head up St Ives’ football and education programme for the foreseeable future.

He said: “I have to say a massive thank you to Ricky for giving me the opportunity to coach in senior football.

“I’ve learned a great deal during my time working with him and he will always remain a close friend.

“I must also thank the chairman for always being incredibly supportive and the staff, board, players and supporters for their efforts during the last three-and-a-half years.

“We have enjoyed some great moments and I have loved being a part of this club, but now seems like the right time for a new challenge with my hometown club.

“The opportunity to be part of an exciting project at Bedford Town is too hard to turn down.”

Marheineke confirmed to the Hunts Post that he has already identified a potential replacement for Cassidy as assistant boss.
