YOUNG Lives is calling on Hunts Post readers to pick up the phone as the charity approaches its 60,000 moment of truth tonight (Wednesday).

Phone voters will decide if Young Lives wins a slice of the Jubilee People’s Millions jackpot and moves a step closer to completing its dream project – a mobile multimedia barge.

The number to call is 0871 626 8808 - lines open at 9am and close at midnight.

Young Lives’ “Get Creative, Get Afloat” project goes head-to-head with a Norfolk-based disability basketball team in today’s public vote on ITV Anglia, with only one project getting the 60,000 windfall that will make their hopes reality.

She said: “This is a fantastic and unique project and will give lots of young people exciting and interesting things to do with their spare time.

“Every vote will count: your vote could make the difference and bring the project to life in Cambridgeshire.”

The charity, which works to create opportunities for young people, hopes that people will get behind its plans to buy and refit a steel barge on which youngsters will be able to learn recording and editing skills, boost their confidence and see Cambridgeshire’s waterways at first hand.

They will also help with the design, upkeep and maintenance of the vessel.

The competition is being run to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee next year, and will see four projects from East Anglia awarded funding. Should Young Lives prove unlucky tonight, the project will have a second chance tomorrow night when the most popular runner-up from the week is awarded the final 60,000.

INFORMATION: The phone number to vote for Get Creative, Get Afloat is 0871 626 8808. The voting phone line opens at 9am and will be open until midnight. A maximum of 10 calls will be accepted from any one phone number. Calls cost no more than 11p from a landline but will be higher from a mobile.
