Youngsters embrace the world of reading and writing at St Ives school

Pupils, teachers and staff became overrun with the literary as week long event encompassed them.

St Ivo School held their Literary Festival from July 13-18 to encourage students to improve their reading and writing skills and to expand their interests.

The week kicked off with an inspirational talk by energetic author Marcus Alexander who encouraged year 7’s to unleash their creative talents whilst talking about his three book adventure series Keeper of the Realms.

The youngsters were also treated to a demonstration of his Capoeira flip which his characters use in his books to defend themselves.

Other literary events included blog workshop by internet superstar Olivia Purvis, Skype Q&A session author Frances Hardinge and children’s writer and illustrator Sally Gardener conducted a workshop with the year 9s.

The festival culminated in a red carpet “Oscar” evening where students, who had produced film trailers based on their favourite books, were presented with Oscar statues and goodie bags following successful nominations by their teachers
