Young and old from across the Huntingdonshire area celebrated the 70th anniversary of VE Day on Friday. Pupils from Abbots Ripton Primary School dressed in 1940s costume and listened to Vera Lynn records. The pupils were also given the opportunity to see a poppy from the recent ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ installation at the Tower of London. A beacon-lighting ceremony took place in Huntingdon town centre on Friday night and volunteers from the St Neots Time Bank organised a VE Day Party. In Ramsey, there was a 1940s-inspired village fete and exhibition.
