A man who raped a woman at a gathering following the Cambridge Beer Festival has been jailed for more than six years.
Alistair Gemmell, 31, attended the festival on May 23 last year before, later that evening, joining three other people at house in Victoria Road.
While at the property, Gemmell, of Churchill Avenue, Wyton, raped a woman when the other two people in the house had gone to bed.
One of the occupants, who was concerned for the woman’s well-being, entered the room whilst the rape was occurring.
Gemmell denied a charge of rape, but was found guilty following a four-day trial at Peterborough Crown Court. On Friday, Gemmell was subsequently sentenced to six years and six months in prison at the same court.
Detective Constable Jennie Scott, of Cambridgeshire police, said: “Tackling sexual offences is a priority for the constabulary and we will do all we can to bring the perpetrators, such as Gemmell, to justice.
“I would like to commend the victim for her bravery throughout the investigation and court proceedings, as well as thank the witnesses for intervening in the incident and assisting with the investigation.”
