Huntingdonshire District Council and Huntingdon Town Council held a flag-raising ceremony at Pathfinder House to commemorate the lives lost during the Battle of Jutland, which took place on May 31 and June 1, 1916. Reverend Andrew Milton, of All Saints Church, blessed the flag and there were speeches from Captain Victor Lucas and Sir David Arculus, the High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire. The Battle of Jutland took place between the Royal Navys Grand Fleet and German High Seas Fleet in the North Sea, off the mainland of Denmark, and involved about 250 ships. More than 8,500 sailors died during the battle. After the flag-raising, a procession marched from the council offices and along High Street, before stopping at the Thinking Soldier war memorial, where wreaths were laid.
