The new year started with a educational and humorous talk by Deanna Hudson on The Mistress, her Maid and the Men in their Lives.
She displayed two original Victorian costumes - a beautiful wedding dress and a black mourning dress with an intricately beaded cape. Both outfits had been worn by the same woman.
The highlight of the evening was the role played by Deanna as the maid and WI member, Julie Graves, as the mistress. We watched with increasing awe as the makeover from modern young member to Victorian lady took place. The meeting ended with refreshments. The raffle was won by Yvonne Tooke and the competition, an item of clothing from the past, was won by Val Barber.
The next meeting is on Tuesday, February 6 for a birthday celebration social evening.
