Kathy Ayto was walking her dog Scrappy through Portholme meadow, in Huntingdon, on September 8, when she came upon a herd of cows. The 55-year-old said she stayed close to the side of the field to make sure she didnt disturb the animals. She said: I was walking my dog like I usually do across the field. I then realised that there was quite a few calves and cows in the field so decided to stay near the edge so I didnt disturb them. I also decided to put my dog on the lead just to make sure that we didnt get in the way. The next thing I knew they were coming towards me, I had fallen on the floor and when I tried to get back up I was trampled again and again. When I finally managed to get up I ran with Scrappy to the end of the field. I had left my car somewhere else, which would mean that I might need to pass the cows again, so just decided to go to my daughters house. My head was stood on and I felt really achy all over my body. Kathy, who lives in Ramsey Heights, usually takes her dog for a walk around Huntingdon as her daughter lives there. She said: Once I finally got home I kept passing out and being sick. Im not sure how long I was passed out for but the paramedics seemed to think it was for around two hours. After this kept happening, I finally called 111, who sent someone out to see me and told me that I would have to go to hospital. Kathy was then taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in an ambulance where they carried out a CT scan to see if anything was wrong. She said that she wants to try and warn other dog walkers and runners about the dangers of walking across places that have cows and other animals in. Kathy said: Im very lucky that my scan was clear and I was told that I had concussion. I finally went home on Sunday morning, the whole thing was a shock to me. I just want to warn dog walkers, and runners to be careful when they are out. I know there have been plenty of times where I have walked through fields with animals in and not worried about it, but after this has happened to me I really dont want someone else to go through what I did. I have around eight bruises and had to go to hospital due to the fall, its not worth it. If you are thinking about taking a shortcut or walking across fields make sure that you take alternative routes. as I was really frightened when that happened and I dont want someone else to go through the same thing.
