Winning bid to be Aimee Robinson’s plus-one revealed

HOW much would you pay to be a plus one for a Huntingdonshire woman at her brother’s wedding ... the answer is 535.

More than 18 people bid for a chance to escort PR consultant Aimee Robinson to her brother’s wedding at The Old Bridge Hotel on December 3.

The 25-year-old, who hopes to raise 5,000 for Diabetes UK by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in January, opted to bypass the dating websites and put herself on the market by offering a night as her chaperone to the highest bidder on eBay.

The lucky winner scooped the prize at the last-minute, after the deadline was extended to 5pm on Monday. The identity of the winner remains a mystery however.

Aimee, who works in London and is formerly of Little Stukeley, thinks the final figure is a “bit of a bargain.” All proceeds from the auction will go to Diabetes UK.

“We kept watching the site last week and it was stuck on 335. At midday on Monday it went up to 350. We were watching the final half-hour and it went to 360, then 460 and the final bid was 535.

“It was a bit difficult to put on a figure on it, as you never know how much interest there might be. But I think it is a bit of a bargain.”

Aimee’s workmate Helena King will be meeting with the winner next week as part of the ‘vetting process.’ Should it be judged to be an “ill-fitting match” the prize will be offered to the next highest bidder.
