The president welcomed 60 members and visitors from Brampton, Huntingdon and The Stukeley WIs to the August cheese and wine evening. The guest speaker was Tim Jones from the Lincolnshire Poacher Artisan Cheesemakers. He told how his great-grandfather had started the farm and how, in 1992, his brother Simon had diversified into cheese making, initially on a small scale, increasing output over the years and even exporting to the USA, and now into Europe. They were supreme champion at the British Cheese Awards in 1996/7, and Tim has since been a judge at cheese shows. Members were then given samples of five cheeses to taste. Carol Gibbins gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the members. They enjoyed a ploughman's lunch, with Lincolnshire Poacher cheese and wine. Members participated in a quiz, and the winning table was Betty, Dorothy, Jean and Joan, and the wooden spoons went to Joan, Louise, Margaret and Pat. The next meeting will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 5, when the speaker will be Dorothy Halphide - Dot of the Dairy. New members and visitors are always welcome.
