THE Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will today visit the famous university city for the first time since they adopted the titles on Royal Wedding.

William and Kate will greet the public from the balcony of the Guildhall between 10.30am and 10.45am after meeting city dignitaries.

The couple will then walk through the crowds at Market Hill to Senate House to speak to 400 students from all the university’s 31 colleges.

Officials are advising the best place to see the couple is in Market Hill or at Peterborough City Hospital, using the park and ride services, when they visit later in the day.

One of the highlights of the visit will see the royal couple officially open a new 24-hour support centre for rough sleepers run by the charity Jimmy’s.

Later the Duke and Duchess will watch a drama, music and dance presentation at Manor School which for the past three years has been involved with a Prince of Wales charity - the Prince’s Teaching Institute, which offers teachers opportunities to develop their skills.

William and Kate will end their day in Cambridgeshire by opening Peterborough City Hospital and greet patients and staff at the multi-million pound institution.

The royal couple will also be given a tour of some of the facilities and equipment at the 612-bed hospital, which opened in November 2010.

Road closures will be in place at:

Green Street (preventing access to Trinity Street)

St John’s Street (preventing access to Trinity Street)
