Patients visiting Hinchingbrooke Hospital will now benefit from new wheelchairs, thanks to a donation from individuals and local groups.

Huntingdon and District Caledonian Society, a group which encourages interest in Scottish traditions and local fundraiser Gwen King joined forces to buy the four new wheelchairs.

The Caledonian Society raised £1,100 towards the wheelchairs and the remainder of the money was made up by local fundraiser Gwenda King, who raised funds by selling handmade greeting cards, jewellery and other gifts. Gwen, who sells her goods in the hospital entrance, where the wheelchairs are stored, had noticed a shortage of wheelchairs so chose to donate some more.

The wheelchairs were handed over to patient services by Gwen, some of the Friends of Hinchingbrooke group and members of the Caledonian Society.

Bev Balls, patient services manager, said: “We are always so grateful to have new wheelchairs, we need so many to transport people around the hospital. Our porters are very happy to have four new ones to use. These ones are very easy to clean.”
