A weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Cambridgeshire.
After a week of blistering temperatures across the county, the Met Office says gardens could be in for a deluge this afternoon (Friday) as storms sweep in from the south.
The weather warning is in place from 2pm to midnight, with a chance of heavy thundery downpours that could be “locally torrential”.
However, temperatures today are expected to peak above 30°C again, before dipping overnight.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Becoming very hot with sunshine and variable cloud, chance of the odd thundery shower during the morning. The risk of more significant thunderstorms increases later in the afternoon, turning locally torrential with hail and briefly gusty winds.”
The spokesman added that it would be a “very humid evening with thunderstorms continuing, locally torrential”.
Overnight, there were power cuts across Huntingdon and the surrounding villages with hundreds of homes in Hartford, Godmanchester, Alconbury, the Stukeleys, Somersham and Brampton understood to have been affected.
Power was restored in the early hours of this morning. The outage, according to UK Power Networks, was caused by a fault with an underground electricity cable.
