A SCAM in which shoppers are offered supposedly ‘high value’ watches has been catching people out in Cambridge.

Offenders have been offering watches in supermarket car parks, claiming they are worth hundreds of pounds.

Cambridgeshire police said the latest incident happened shortly before 5pm on Wednesday (October 10) when a man stopped a motorist outside Tesco in Cheddars Lane saying he needed money for petrol. The victim agreed to buy three watches for £25, but later found they were worthless.

Another victim handed over £45 for three watches in Waitrose car park in Hauxton Road, Trumpington, on Thursday (October 4).

Detective Sergeant Rich Sinclair said: "I would urge people to be vigilant and to call police if they are offered watches for sale in such circumstances.

"Remember if something appears too good to be true, it usually is."
