THE recent warm weather has reportedly led to more people having open-air sex in Eynesbury.

The issue was raised at the meeting of Eynesbury Village Association on the evening of Monday, June 7 attended by residents and neighbourhood police officers.

Town councillor for Eynesbury, Cllr Steve van de Kerkhove, who attended the meeting, said he found the news “surprising”.

He said: “I know the area has an issue with under-age drinking and drugs, but I had no idea this was other thing was happening. I thought I had my finger on the pulse but this has surprised me.”

He said he imagined the culprits were teenagers and the problem could be down to the warmer weather and a lack of youth facilities.

“Now that I’ve asked around there seems to be a bit of a spate of it,” said Cllr van de Kerkhove. “It happened in Montagu Court. My big concern is the impact it could have on residents.

“The police are doing what they can but they only have limited resources.”

Cambridgeshire police would not say how many incidents had been reported but other sites included Montagu Square and Pocket Park.

St Neots and District Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Ed McNeill told The Hunts Post that sex in public places was not an issue in St Neots.

He said: “Historically, sex in public places has always gone on and will always go on. It is not a major concern in the St Neots area. If it becomes a concern then we will address it.”
