Three community groups and charities have been shortlisted for a DIY SOS-style makeover.
The Hunts Post has teamed up with St Neots-based SJS Property Services to help give a group’s room a new lease of life and we put it to our readers to nominate a worthy cause.
We have whittled down the numerous entries to the final three, and now it’s up to you to choose which charity or group is most deserving.
Cornerstone Care in Confidence
Cornerstone, which offers help and support to women and men with unplanned pregnancy, has recently moved into a new building in Trinity Place, Huntingdon.
The service’s half of the building has two counselling rooms and a reception area which are grey in colour and have suffered some water damage.
Helen Turley, who nominated Cornerstone, said: “When people arrive in ‘a grey mood’ it doesn’t help. Cornerstone need these rooms to be bright and breezy, so that their clients feel welcomed and comfortable.”
Thongsley Fields Breakfast Club
The Huntingdon primary school club offers a free breakfast to every child before their days start.
Lianne Durrell said: “Once the child has finished eating they go into the room next door to play until school starts.
“I would love to be able to give something back to the school as all three of my children use the breakfast club everyday.
“The room is also used for children on a one-to-one basis who need it.”
The community hall in Huntingdon’s high street benefits the whole of the town’s community, running a wide range of events and classes.
Marilyn Bailey, manager, said: “We have lots of projects that we would like to have carried out here but as a charity we do not have the funds to do this work.”
