The Friends of Hinchingbrooke Country Park, young people from Wildlife and Green Watch groups and the 2nd Huntingdon Hinchingbrooke Scouts teamed up to help plant 200 trees.
A group of more than 25 volunteers planted hazel and blackthorn whips supplied as part of a tree pack which the Friends of Hinchingbrooke Country Park had successfully applied for from The Woodland Trust.
The shrubs were planted along Pine Avenue on April 1 to improve the woodland edge diversity for the benefit of wildlife and people at the park. Each tree was planted, staked, guarded, watered, and finally given a protective mulch layer, to give it the best possible chance of survival.
“We were very pleased to have such a great turnout for the tree planting to further improve this lovely part of the country park” said chairman of the Friends of Hinchingbrooke Country Park, David Thurogood. “It is just one of the ways the Friends are supporting the district council’s countryside services rangers with the management of the site this year.”
