Youngsters came together to celebrate the new 20mph limit on the streets around their school in Buckden on May 8.
Installing the new limit cost about £8,000 and was supported and funded by both Buckden Parish Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, and followed a campaign by 20’s Plenty Buckden & Stirtloe in which 700 names were gathered for a petition.
After two years of campaigning, the new limit was finally introduced in the village earlier this year, covering School Lane, Church Street, Silver Street, and the surrounding areas.
Amy Burbidge, a member of 20s Plenty for Buckden said: “I would say that the new limit has made an impact. Where people were driving a lot above 30mph, they are not doing so now. It is making people drive slower and I feel that it has been calmer.
“It has also given people in the village confidence that they can do things and make a difference locally.”
May 8 was chosen because it was the start of the United Nation’s Global Road Safety Week, which had the theme Save Lives #Slow Down.
