Hundreds of books have been donated to a new community library in Brampton.

As a part of the Vision for Brampton scheme, a new library committee has been formed to open up a hub in the village.

Committee chairman, Jackie Woodward said: “We are in very early days at the moment, we have just started our appeal in the village for donations of books that we hope will then go into the library.”

Since starting the appeal three weeks ago the committee has already been given more than 200 books ranging from children’s stories to classic novels.

“We have had a whole range of books coming in; it is lovely to see people being so generous.”

She said: “This is something that I am really passionate about, I think its important people have access to books and a library.”

Once the appeal ends the library committee will sort out all the books that have been collected before the potential opening of the library in 2017.

It is not known where the facility’s home will be at this stage but it is hoped that once the library opened it will make borrowing books easier for people in the village instead of having to travel to libraries in Huntingdon or St Ives.

Along with the library, the village hopes to open up a number of services in the coming months, some of which have been lost due to budget cuts. The move comes following a community survey carried out last year.

Donation boxes for books are currently in the Memorial Centre, in Thrapston Road, and collected at the end of each day.
