The Post Office says a proposal to re-locate its Sawtry branch would mean longer opening hours for residents.
The proposal is for a new branch located at Best One, in Greenways, which would see products and services provided from a till at the retail counter of the convenience store.
Should the move go ahead, Post Office says that its services would be available seven days a week during the store’s opening hours, running from Monday to Friday, 7am-7pm; Saturday, 8am-7pm; and Sunday, 9am-6pm.
According to Post Office, this would result in an extra 42 hours and 30 minutes of opening hours, with the branch also open earlier and closed later every day.
The proposed move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.
The village’s existing branch is located in Green End Road.
Will Russell, regional manager for Post Office, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.
“We are confident that this vibrant new-style at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”
Officials are inviting villagers to give their comments on the move in a public consultation. The consultation will close on August 5. Submissions can be made during the consultation by freepost to Your Comments, Post Office Ltd, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or via the customer helpline on 03457 22 33 44.
Customers can also share their views online through a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 299230.
