A motorcyclist has been ordered to pay £885 after being caught carelessly riding on the A14.

Geoff O’Grady, 27, of East Drive, Virginia Water, Surrey, was caught overtaking a car on its inside on the westbound carriageway, just before the Bar Hill junction.

O’Grady, riding a Suzuki motorbike, was travelling in the right-hand lane of the three-lane carriageway on March 14 last year when he came stuck behind a slower-moving vehicle. He passed the car in the middle lane, causing another motorist to brake, before pulling back into the third lane.

Officers, travelling behind the motorcyclist, had to accelerate to 95mph to catch up with O’Grady, who pulled into the BP garage.

The 27-year-old refused to accept the fine and points and was summonsed to appear in court.

He was also given eight points on his licence.

Roads Policing Unit officer Mark Lappin said: “The rider put himself and other road users in danger through his careless actions.

“The fine, costs and penalty points he incurred should act as a deterrent to all road users.”
