All football fans remember Ryan Giggs’ goal against Arsenal in 1999 and Stephen Gerrard’s screamer against West Ham in the 2006 final – but was the greatest FA Cup goal scored by a St Neots Town Player on Tuesday?

Rene Steer has become an internet sensation over the last 24 hours, with his left footed thunderbolt clocking up more than 200,000 views in one day and being posted all over the web.

The 23-year-old left back’s 71st minute goal levelled the score at 1-1 in St Neots’ second round qualifying round replay against Canvey Island on Tuesday night (October 2), before a last minute winner from Spencer Bellotti saw Steer’s side lose the game 2-1.

Nevertheless the game will be remembered for Steer’s extraordinary goal.
