MOVE over Beyonce, Lady Gaga and One Direction .... and welcome the Bedazzle Theatre Arts singers who last week recorded their own CD.

The Huntingdonshire singers, who all have learning difficulties, spent five days picking songs, learning the lyrics and even some dance moves from professional choreographer Lisa Cureton, who has worked with Robbie Williams, Kanye West and Bryan Ferry.

It was then show time as the Bedazzle singers, whose ages range from 10 to adults, recorded their CD.

Diane Janssen, an actor who has appeared in The Bill and Brookside, runs Bedazzled and organised the event.

She told The Hunts Post: "We start each day with a vocal warm up, like any professional would do, and then went on to rehearse, learn the moves, and get ready to record.

"It was quite intensive but we had a lot of fun. It's good for the group as it gives them confidence, adds character and lets them experience something a bit different."

The singers recorded their own versions of the Beatles' Hey Jude, One Direction's That's What Makes you Beautiful, Amy Winehouse's Valerie, Jessie J's Price Tag, and Olly Murs' Dance With Me Tonight.

Diane added: "It's been a bit of a musical education for me. The group chose the songs they wanted to sing from people I hadn't heard of but it means it's more personal."

The actress started Bedazzled six years ago to offer people with learning disabilities the chance to perform and, because they take the LAMDA accredited exams, some of Diane's students have gone to work in British films.

Nearly all of the 17-strong group took the most recent exams, passing with flying colours and are preparing for a show in Cambridge in November.

Regular Tuesday theatre and art group meetings take place at the Huntingdon Community Centre, in association with Huntingdon Mencap.

The Strangwood Trust helped fund the music week, which kept down the cost for those taking part.
