Hordes of children scrambled around on the ground for pennies to mark the start of the Michaelmas Fair in St Ives on Monday.
Mayor Councillor Nick Dibben read the official scroll to open the fair, in The Broadway, in front of hundreds of schoolchildren eagerly awaiting the tossing of newly-minted pennies.
Cllr Dibben said: “It was slightly wet but good fun. It’s one of the things about being mayor that is a bit of fun and it was good to see a lot of people in the town centre for the fair and let’s hope the weather holds up for the rest of the fair.”
The fair runs until Thursday night.
