Joanna Circus, Hazel Sterling and Jasmine Butler were among 15 youngsters cooking three-course meals for judges at Hinchingbrooke School last month. Each of the competitors, who were all aged 17 and under, had won separate contests organised by Rotary clubs. For her three courses, Joanna, who had won the St Ives heat, made tomato and basil soup, chicken supreme and creme brulee. Hazel, who was the winner at Ramsey, made leek and potato soup, chicken stir fry and healthy cupcakes. Jasmine, Huntingdon Cromwells winner, came up with a Valentines-themed menu of kindred hearts, Cupid chicken and divine chocolate. Rotary district 1070 Young Chef Competition organiser Anne Bamfield said the food was exceptional. The standard was incredibly high, she added. Its a super competition. The winner was 13-year-old Joshua Smith who was representing Wellingborough Hatton Rotary Club in Northamptonshire. He will go on to the regional finals in Nottinghamshire in March. The national final is due to be in Dundee in April.
