A WEST Midlands man died and a St Ives motorist was seriously injured following a two car crash near Chatteris on Friday night.
A WEST Midlands man died and a St Ives motorist was seriously injured following a two car crash near Chatteris on Friday night.
Fire crews joined ambulance and police at the scene after one car was on its roof and specialist cutting equipment was needed to free one of the drivers.
Albert Lloyd Warner, 45, of Oakfield Close, Smethwick near Birmingham, the driver of a black Peugeot 206, died at the scene.
The driver of a silver Seat, a 28-year-old man from St Ives, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries. He was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon.
Emergency services were called at about 11.30pm following reports of a collision on the A141, close to the junction with First Furlong Drove and near to Bartlett’s factory.
The road was closed for six hours to allow accident investigators to carry out their inquiries.

A police spokesman said any witnesses should call Pc Jon Blood on 101.
A fire service spokesman said crews from Chatteris and March and a rescue vehicle from Huntingdon attended.
“One vehicle was on its roof and fire-fighters used specialist cutting equipment to release one person,” said the spokesman.
“The air ambulance and police were also in attendance.”
Crews returned to their stations by 2.40am.
