WHILE for most of us running a single marathon is enough for one year, one St Neots firefighter is on target to have completed the equivalent of 17 by November.

Paul Oliver, 30, has already completed four ultra-runs this year including the Lakeland 100, a long-distance race across the Lakeland fells.

Paul was just one of 80 people who crossed the finish line from an initial 350 participants.

Next month, Paul will face his biggest challenge to date. He will be competing in the Trans Britain run, a 156 mile race from Scotland through the Lake District to Wales.

Plans to take part in the Jungle Marathon, a 220km race across the Amazon Rainforest, have been postponed for one year, so Paul can concentrate on the UK challenge.

Last but not least, Paul will be doing the Pembrokeshire 78-mile challenge in November.

Speaking about the Trans Britain run, Paul said: “This is going to be extremely hard but I am hoping to do very well in this and be high up in the rankings.”

Earlier this year, Paul completed a 26-mile race around the Vale of Belvoir in north-east Leicestershire, the 78-mile Jurassic Coast Challenge in Dorset, coming in sixth overall, and the Three Peaks mountain challenge, in which he scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon in under 17 hours.

Paul is hoping to raise 5,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity and Macmillian Cancer Support.
