TWO men have been fined for their parts in a mass brawl that convinced police officers to force Huntingdon night club Level 2 to shut.

Aaron Lomas was out with friends in the venue in All Saints Passage in the early hours of Sunday, April 22, when he was told by a bouncer to “get out”.

The 21-year-old, of Crowhill, Godmanchester, was escorted out of the premises and waited outside for a friend, Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday (September 13).

Andy Cave, defending Lomas, said that while outside he saw a bouncer pinning someone against a wall inside the club and he went to help.

Mr Cave told the court: “His poor decision was to hang around outside the club after being asked to leave. He then witnessed someone getting, in his eyes, assaulted. He then sees this person knocked to the ground and this is when he admits he lost his temper.

“For perhaps the right reasons he goes to help and is then pushed to the other side of the alleyway, and this is when he swings a punch.”

Seconds later, Mark Furness, who was looking for his son – out celebrating – left the club.

Lorraine Adams, defending Furness, said the 52-year-old witnessed a fight break out.

“He gets involved, pushing and shoving, then takes a swing at a bouncer but misses. He was then knocked unconscious by a bouncer,” she added.

Magistrates were shown CCTV footage of the incident in which 40 police officers were called to respond.

Lomas was fined 465 and ordered to pay 85 court costs and a 15 victim surcharge. Furness was told to pay 1,200 in total.

On April 26, Cambridgeshire police were granted a closure order on the club forcing it to shut for 28 days. Huntingdonshire District Council withdrew the venue’s licence on May 8.
