A DISTRESSED deer had to be rescued after getting stuck in a gate.
Fire fighters were forced to use specialist cutting equipment to release the Muntjac deer after it became trapped at St Neots Road, on the A428 at Hardwick, at 10.35am yesterday (Wednesday, November 24).
They cut the bars off the gate to free the animal before releasing it back into the wild.
Karl Jarvis, crew manager at Cambridge Fire Station, said: “The deer was quite distressed, but uninjured. We used hydraulic spreaders to bend the bars of the gate to release the deer’s body.
“It then went jumping back into the wild uninjured.”
Crews returned to their fire station by 11.20am.
